The quench and mixing system consists of a horizontal collection tray, an integrated mixing chamber beneath it, and dedicated flow passages connecting the tray with the chamber. This configuration creates an enclosed two-phase mixing zone, where fluids from above the tray are channeled downward into the mixing space. Optimized performance is achieved when the quench fluid is introduced above the collection tray in a controlled direction to induce rotational flow, significantly enhancing mixing efficiency.
In multi-bed reactor applications, the system enables intermediate cooling between successive catalyst beds. The injected quench fluid is thoroughly mixed with the process stream before the cooled mixture is uniformly redistributed to the next catalyst bed.
